the family walking on all fours together...

So apparently there is a family in Turkey that all bear-walk. They don't do it just to play around...it's how they walk. All the time. Everywhere. The news report from the UK's Daily Mail says they are actually unable to walk upright (although two can walk upright for a short amount of time). Yeah, it's not a hoax like I first thought. "Study of the five has shown the astonishing behaviour is not a hoax and they are largely unable to walk otherwise. "

Scientists see this Kurdish family of five on fours as a bridge, a link to discover the moment we, as humans, began walking upright. This family could be a key to discovering our evolutionary heritage and history. Here's the clincher: they are all mentally handicapped.

Scientists, apparently, now believe humans evolved from mentally retarded quadruped, possibly in the region of Turkey. News story at eleven--actually BBC2 will air a documentary on the family Friday, March 17th. Those of us in the States are out of luck. We'll have to settle for the print versions of our ancestors.
